Landscaping doesn’t need to be complicated. It is a straightforward process once you’ve got a tiny practice under your belt.

Henry and I have different views on a lot of things, but equally on landscaping and house design, we concur that simple is better.

Keeping it simple means getting sufficient greenery, but not too much. We think that it’s important not to overdo your landscaping for a few factors. More plants and shrubs mean more work and much more to look after. And if you wind up planting too much, things can begin to look overgrown speedily.

The number one thing to keep in mind while planning your landscaping is layering. Layers will add interest and texture.

We normally begin with citrus larger shrubs in the back or perhaps a tree. This will create your height. Then we proceed forward into the middle where a medium-size evergreen is planted. In front, we love to leave space for seasonal flowers.

4. Use the Ideal Mulch

I know most folks have their favorite mulch. Ours is pine bark. We enjoy it for a few reasons. It has a very natural colour. We are not big fans of those unnatural compost colors you can get, like black or red.

Pine bark also includes a perfect feel. It’s little pieces of bark, but in addition some stringy pieces that allow it to cling together and not wash from banks.
