We always use the exact same design process and design techniques over and above since it works with attaining a fresh landscape around a house. Here is the look we love and are always striving for.

1. Keep It Simple

Landscaping doesn’t need to be complex. It’s a straightforward process once you have a tiny practice under your belt.

Henry and I normally have different views on many things, but both on landscaping and home design, we agree that simple is better.

Keeping it simple means having enough greenery, but not overly much. More plants and shrubs mean more work and much more to look after. And if you end up planting too much, things can begin to look overgrown speedily.

Keeping it simple also means that you won’t need to spend as much on your own landscaping. Most of us recognize that shrubs and flowers can get expensive.

2.

Always be sure to plan out the region you want to landscape. Do some research on what sort of plant works best for where you’re planting.

We’ve got a couple of plants we use at about every landscaping project. We’ve Got a obsession with all Boxwoods. We normally use Wintergem or Wintergreen Boxwoods. The number one reason for enjoying this particular plant is because it is so hardy and it’s evergreen. As an example, we like Emerald Green Arborvitaes.

Having a plan in mind will also keep you from overbuying and spending too much cash. Not to mention it is going to keep the workload down on hauling extra unnecessary plants.

3. Layering

Layers will add texture and interest.

We normally begin with citrus larger shrubs in the back or even a tree. This can create your height. Then we proceed forward to the centre where a medium-size evergreen is planted. At front, we like to leave space for seasonal flowers.

Now, the rule is occasionally broken when you have a smaller region. In this case, it’s straightforward. You plant exactly what you have room for. This may only be two or one layers. For instance, around our front porch, we just have space for a larger shrub and a coating of flowers in front.

4. Use the Ideal Mulch

I know most people have their preferred mulch. Ours is walnut bark. We like it for a few reasons. It has a very natural colour. We are not big fans of those unnatural compost colors you can get, such as black or red.

Pine bark also has a perfect feel. It’s little pieces of bark, but in addition some stringy pieces that allow it to cling together and not wash off of banks.

5. Consistently Edge

Always advantage!

Edging will create a fresh line where your grass matches the mulch. Not only can it look fantastic, but people will also for sure believe you hired an expert. Edging does require a little more time, but it creates a very nice stopping point. It also will help prevent your mulch out of running away.

You can create a nice clean edge using a spade as seen in the picture below. Then it’s possible to border along with the spray-painted line.

As I stated above, rustic landscaping front yard doesn’t need to be challenging. I feel like anything; we talk ourselves into believing we can’t do it. Now, do not get me wrong, I am not sure I will let Henry talk me into doing a job as large as our final one…One hundred off bags of mulch was a bit much for me, but for the most part, landscaping it’s fun to us.

Let’s get those edgers outside and get to work!
