1. Keep It Simple
Landscaping doesn’t need to be complicated. It is a simple process as soon as you have a little practice under your belt.
Henry and I have different views on a lot of things, but equally on landscaping and house design, we agree that simple is better.
Keeping it simple means getting sufficient greenery, but not overly much. More shrubs and plants mean more work and much more to take care of. And if you wind up planting too much, things can start to appear overgrown speedily.
Keeping it simple also ensures that you won’t need to spend as much in your landscaping. Most of us recognize that shrubs and flowers can get expensive.

Always make sure and plan out the area that you want to landscape. Do some research on the kind of plant functions best for where you are planting.
We’ve got a few plants we use at about every landscaping job. We have an obsession with Boxwoods. We normally use Wintergem or Wintergreen Boxwoods. The main reason for loving this particular plant is because it’s so hardy and it is evergreen. As an example, we enjoy Emerald Green Arborvitaes.
And of course it will keep the workload down hauling extra unneeded plants.

Layers will add interest and texture.
We normally begin with citrus bigger shrubs in the trunk or perhaps a tree. This can create your elevation. Then we move forward to the middle where a medium-size evergreen is planted. At front, we love to leave space for seasonal flowers.
The layered rule is sometimes broken whenever you’ve got a smaller area. In cases like this, it is straightforward. You plant what you have room for. This might just be two or one layers. For instance, about our front porch, we just have space for a larger tree along with a layer of flowers in front.

4. Use the Right Mulch
I know most people have their favorite mulch. Ours is walnut bark. We like it for a few reasons. It has a very natural colour. We’re not big fans of those unnatural compost colors you can get, like black or red.
Pine bark also has a perfect texture. It’s little pieces of bark, but in addition some stringy bits that allow it to cling together and not easily wash from banks.

5. Consistently Edge
Edging will produce a fresh line where your grass matches the mulch. Not only will it look great, but people will also for sure think you hired an expert. Edging does take a little more time, but it creates a very pleasant stopping point. Additionally, it will help stop your mulch from running away.
You may produce a nice clean edge working with a spade as seen in the image below. Then it’s possible to edge together with the spray-painted line.
As I mentioned previously, backyard pool landscaping doesn’t need to be hard. I feel like anything; we talk ourselves into thinking we can’t do it. Now, do not get me wrong, I am not sure I’ll let Henry talk me into doing a job as big as our final one…One hundred sixty bags of compost was somewhat much for me, but for the most part, landscaping it’s interesting for us.
Let us get those edgers outside and have to work!
